About Avocent
 |
History
Avocent® was formed in 2000 from the merger of the world's two largest KVM
(keyboard, video and mouse) switch manufacturers: Apex and Cybex Computer
Products Corporation. Our unique integration of hardware, software and
embedded technologies provides a single interface to quickly and efficiently
manage your IT infrastructure. We help you solve system problems anytime,
anywhere, no matter the location or health of your servers or network
devices.
Avocent has more than two decades of combined experience in providing
manageability solutions for businesses of all sizes. We help IT staff meet
the challenge of attempting to be everywhere, all of the time. |
Avocent has grown through product innovations, global expansion and
strategic acquisitions. In 2001, Avocent acquired Equinox Systems; 2C
Computing was acquired in 2002; and Soronti, Inc. in 2003. Crystal Link
Technologies, OSA Technologies, Inc., and Sonic Mobility, Inc. were acquired
in 2004. Cyclades Corporation and LANDesk Corporation were acquired in 2006.

Avocent Solutions Connect and Manage IT
Infrastructures
We continue to lead the market with
connectivity and manageability solutions that
centralize control of not only servers, but also network devices in multiple
locations. IT management solutions are available for the data centre, branch
locations and small to midsize businesses.
The history of Avocent innovations that have advanced the
IT industry include: multi-platform/multi-user switching, analog matrix
switching, extension over CAT 5, PCI bus extension, patented on-screen
menus, remote KVM over IP connectivity, digital serial over IP,
digital-analog integrated access to multiple servers, wireless KVM,
hand-held solutions, and hub and spoke failover technology.
Our IP-based manageability systems eliminate distance
limitations and provide 24/7 access and control of your data centre. Avocent
centralized management software allows ITadministrators to sit at a single
console and have secure, local and remote control of multiple servers,
serial devices, IPMI proxy appliances and power management systems.
Embedded Software and Solutions
Embedded Virtual Presence Infrastructure (eVPI) is an
embedded software and hardware management platform. It helps you reduce
operational costs by offering pre-integrated health monitoring, power
control, virtual media, and console access that integrate with Avocent
appliances and consoles. The eVPI platform is especially useful to server,
blade telecommunications, networking, storage, and desktop/notebook markets.
Millions of servers and tens of millions of desktops and notebooks include
Avocent embedded products.
Serial and Audio-Visual Solutions
These solutions provide serial connectivity, audio and
video extension both wired and wireless, and control systems for broadcast
studios. Avocent multi-interface serial hubs and multiport adapters help you
manage ports easily at the point of need whether local or remote.
Professional audio and video extension products help you reach your target
audience while increasing productivity and saving money. Serial and
audio-visual solutions are used in many applications including retail point
of sale, digital signage and broadcasting.
Mobile Solutions
Multiple platform mobile solutions include software that
allows the use of mobile devices to manage network and data centre
infrastructures. Mobile solutions software provides increased network
security when you are managing cellular PDAs, smartphones and similar
devices. It is specifically designed for system administrators who manage a
distributed workforce, remote sales team or service team.
