LongView 1000U Extender
 |
The LongView®1000U extender lets you place a keyboard, monitor, mouse, speakers, microphone and serial port up to 1,000 feet away from your computer or Avocent KVM switch.
|
Multiple challenges faced by your IT organization can be managed
by the physical separation of your users from their
computer/target device. Challenges include protecting computers
from hazardous work environments, protecting computers from
accidental damage or theft, and the requirement for centralized
IT management.
The LongView 1000U extender is a point-to-point KVM, audio and
serial device extender for use up to 1,000 feet. The system is a
transmitter and receiver design with an interconnecting UTP
cable and easily connects to USB computers.
The system has a unique auto tuning feature that automatically
compensates for both video skew and signal degradation over
standard UTP cable without compromising the user experience.
The simple transmitter and receiver design assures ease of
installation and simple deployment.

Benefit
|
|
User |
| Extends keyboard,
video, mouse, speakers, microphone and serial devices up to 1,000
feet with any UTP cable type |
Users can remove computers from
non-suitable locations such as hazardous work environments, public
places, or areas where computer security needs to be protected. |
| Connect PS/2 and USB keyboard and
mouse at the user station, regardless of the target device platform. |
The use of PS/2 or USB KM
peripherals or a mixture of the two makes the user experience very
flexible. |
|
Performance |
| Automatically compensates for
video skew |
This unique feature ensures
delivery of clear and crisp video up to 1,000 feet. It will compensate for UTP cable categories 5, 5e
and 6 alone or in combination, even through patch panels. |
|
Flexibility |
| The LV1000 extender, with its
dual transmitter, will support connectivity to a second user
station. |
The system can be configured to
let you place a second user locally to the computer for maintenance.
The computer can also be extended to a second user station up to
1,000 feet away to satisfy applications such as video display,
classroom and others. |
| The serial port supports
connectivity to RS232 serial device peripherals like touch screens,
bar coders, scanners, etc. |
The serial port allows
connectivity to your laptop serial port for firmware upgrades. But
for normal mode operation this port can be used to connect other
serial devices. This gives the user even more flexibility at the
desk, especially for command and control applications. |
|
Management |
| Ease of installation |
The single cable-to-user design
simplifies installation while making it easier to move, add or
change configurations. The design is non-intrusive and requires no
special software or drivers. |
| Optional desk, flat panel
monitor, wall and rack mounting. |
The mounting options allow for a
clean and tidy user desktop environment that saves time, space and
money. |
| Unlike many extenders supports an
On-Screen Display interface. |
The OSD gives easy access to
configuration and system information which simplifies system
management. |

FAQs

Questions
|
Answers
|
|
Cabling |
| I have inherited
a pre-wired infrastructure. I know it is UTP cable but I am not sure
which type. Is that a problem? |
No. The LV1000 extender is
designed to optimize performance for any CAT 5, 5e and 6 UTP cable
types. |
| I am running my
extension connection through at least one patch panel and may have a
mixture of UTP cable types. Is this a problem? |
No. The LV1000 AutoTuning®
technology feature will adjust for a mixture of UTP cable types in
the extension path. |
| I may have to change my extension
path from time to time through patch panel changes or to facilitate
Moves, Adds, Changes (MAC's). Will this be a problem? |
No. Once the extension path is
broken and then reconnected, the LV1000 extender will run the
AutoTuning feature and optimize the performance for the new
extension path. |
| I have seen some cable
manufacturers that promote special skew-limiting UTP cable. Will the
LV1000 extender perform better if I use this cable? |
The LV1000 extender does not
require specialized and expensive skew-limiting cables to be used.
Skew compensation is built into its design. It will automatically
compensate for any UTP connection path. |
|
Peripherals |
| Will the LV1000 receiver unit
support both USB and PS/2 keyboards on the same unit? |
Yes. The LV1000 receiver will
support USB or PS/2 keyboard and mouse. It is possible to have a
mixture of PS/2 and USB peripherals. It is even possible to have a
USB and PS/2 mouse / keyboard connected at the same time. |
| Will the LV1000 extender support
and extend a touch screen? |
Yes. The LV1000 extender supports
the extension of a serial touch screen device when connected through
the LV1000 receiver and transmitter serial ports. |
| What kind of serial devices are
supported by the LV1000 extender? |
The LV1000 extender is designed
to support any serial device up to a baud rate of 34,800 with full
hardware flow control. Examples include touch screen, bar coders,
scanners, etc. |
| Can I use a USB keyboard and
mouse on the receiver unit if the target machine is a PS/2? |
Absolutely and vice-versa! You
can use a PS/2 keyboard and mouse on the receiver with a USB target
machine. |
| Do I have to use a Sun keyboard
if the target machine is a Sun? |
No. You can use either a PS/2 or
USB keyboard. |
|
Target devices |
| Can the LV1000 extender be
connected to a KVM matrix switch? |
Yes. Connecting the transmitter
to the local port of the KVM switch and extending it to the receiver
unit will allow the user to access the OSD menu of the switch. In
turn, it also allows selection of the machines attached to the
switch. |
|
Technical |
| What is the maximum specified
distance for the LV1000 extender? |
1,000 feet. |
| What is automatic skew
compensation? |
This is the LV1000 extender
method to measure signal transmission time in the individual twisted
pairs inside the UTP cable. It can then introduce the appropriate
amount of delay to each pair at the receiver end. This assures you
that signals transmitted from the target machine are in synch when
they arrive at the receiver station. The result is a very clear,
high-quality, crisp image on the remote monitor. |
| How do I power the transmitter
units? |
The transmitter unit does not
require an external power supply as it takes its power from the
target machine. The power is taken either through the PS/2 or USB
port depending on which type of transmitter is being used. |
