NIAP Protection Profile

NIAP’s protection profile may be new, but Avocent has been designing secure desktop KVM switches with restricted USB connections since 2006.

The profile limits the use of Universal Serial Bus (USB) connections to keyboard, mouse and display.

No other USB device shall be valid. None. But there’s no reason to let this stress you out.

Avocent technology already supports secure USB connections.
As part of our market-leading secure KVM solutions, Avocent offers the only Common Criteria validated switches that support both USB connection for keyboard and mouse and the lockdown of all other devices.

National Information Assurance Partnership (NIAP) released the latest version of the Protection Profile (PP) for peripheral sharing switches (PSS). Effective June 1, 2010, the Peripheral Sharing Switch for Human Interface Devices Protection Profile, Version 2.0 (specifically written to address the unique security risks associated with USB KVM switches) will include more stringent requirements for USB and a lower Evaluation Assurance Level (EAL2 versus EAL4+).
